| Return of the Cat Blogger! |
[Oct. 14th, 2009|05:36 pm] |

I tried to stop cat blogging, but Kook and Scooter are just too cute sometimes. I caught them in bed together today. I didn't over-react or shame them... It's purrfectly normal... |

[Jun. 26th, 2008|11:50 am] |
Played $1/$2 no-limit at Madalay last night. Up as much as $100, down as much as well. Walked away up $27.
Played in the 9:00 AM no-limit tournament at the Excalibur today. $35 buy-in gets you $300 (eke!) in chips, no rebuys. The blinds go up every 15 minutes. I lasted an hour. My first hand with 2 face cards was also my bust out hand. |

| A little thing... |
[Jun. 21st, 2008|12:31 pm] |

I spend a lot of time at coffee shops. Being self-employed gives me the freedom to call anyplace with wifi my office for the day. One of my faves is Bean Street in San Mateo. About the only downside is that there is just one table with an outlet. Today I discovered a row of shinny (maybe even new) outlets under some shelves along the wall. It means every table in the place is within reach of an outlet. It's a small thing, but it makes my world a better place. |

| JetBlue Sucks |
[May. 8th, 2008|05:09 pm] |
I used to love JetBlue. Their people were friendly, their rates low, their website useable, and they really seemed to be trying harder. Today I got my regular monthly 'True Blue Rewards' spam, the one that I never bother to look at. This time, I decided to look. Hmmm, no reward points, that seems odd. So I look on their website and find that they expire after a year. Bleh. That's kinda' sucky.
I decide to tell them so. I notice the handy 'Tell us how we're doing' thingy. It asks my what I want to comment about, and I choose 'True Blue'. It asks me what about True Blue, I choose 'Other'. It asks me for my personal data. Bleh, I'm already logged in to the site. That's lame. It then asks me for my flight number and confirmation number! What the!?!? I leave 'em blank and it promptly tells me that they are required.
Yeah, they've really lost their way. Too bad. |

The San Francisco Bay area is home, so I have experienced a few earthquakes. I'm in the Chicago area at the moment, and I woke up last night to a shaking bed. The shaking stopped and I went back to sleep. The first words spoken to me this morning: "It's all your fault, California boy!" |

| How I fixed Poker Stars Faultless Software |
[Feb. 29th, 2008|05:30 pm] |
A while back, I began having issues with the Poker Stars software freezing up. It always happened between the first and second hand that I played. First hand was fine, but then it stopped responding for a bit. It wasn't uncommon for this result in my second hand being folded and me being listed as 'Sitting Out'. I gave the support folks a very detailed description of the problem, including the fact that is was accessing the disk while it was unresponsive. They responed with and email that said "our software has no faults." Yeah..... right.....
Anyway, the other day I figured it out. I keep a lot of hand histories (1000 days worth). The folder (wow, I call them folders now) where the hand histories are kept had a lot of files in it. What if I moved them all someplace else? The answer: The problem goes away. My guess is that between the first and second hand the software is looking through all of the hand histories and deleting the one that are older than the user has specified. The default value is small (I can't recall, but perhaps 30 days), but if the user (me) makes it big, say 1000, then the software has to access lots of files to see how old they are. Seems like a good job for a worker thread... |

| Study: Spanking may lead to sexual "problems" |
[Feb. 28th, 2008|09:50 am] |
USA Today has this story which says that getting spanked as a child may lead to sexual "problems" such as "engaging in masochistic sex, including sexual arousal by spanking."
If you are suffering from this "problem", let me know. I can help. ;-) |

| Bike Jockstraps - Sucky Sucky Sucky |
[Feb. 1st, 2008|05:16 pm] |
|
I recently had a vasectomy (ouch! and ouch!). As part of the aftercare, I was supposed to wear a jockstrap for a while. I ran out to the local sporting goods store and bought a two-pack of Bike athletic supporters, the elastic kind, not the kind with a cup. The cloth and elastic on each one started unraveling almost immediately. Sucky sucky sucky. |
